“4. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5. For God doth know that in the day ye eat therof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. 6. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.”
Many times, in the mind of a Christian the thought of sin is something very evil and wicked. One might say committing adultery, murder, stealing, alcoholism, cursing is sin without a doubt, of course it is, the Bible tells us that it is! What brings someone to this place though? Does a guy wake up one day and say I am going to cheat on my wife? Of course not. It starts out to be something smaller, just like with murder and stealing. People don’t just wake up as an alcoholic or drug addict, it takes one beer to start down that path, it takes one use to start leading into addiction. The Bible tells us in Galatians 6:9 “A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.” If your not sure what that means, its simply saying that the tiniest bit of sin in your life will grow bigger and bigger if you don’t deal with it. Leaven is yeast, yeast is an ingredient you use when you bake bread. Bread always comes out of the oven much larger than when it went in. Sin always starts out small, but if you don’t deal with it, it will turn into something bigger than you can handle. So how does adultery end up in the home? Matthew 5:28 “But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.” We can see that when you first look upon sin, you must deal with it immediately or it will destroy your life. James 1:15 “Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.” Looking back at the main text we know that Adam and Eve were given specific instructions to not eat of the fruit and also not to touch it. Verse 6 tells us even further that they didn’t even look at it. Don’t look at sin, it will always entice you to go further. Eve’s big mistake was vs 6 “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food..” Sin always looks good, but the after taste is always bitter. Eve didn’t stop there! The next thing she did was put her hand on it, she had to touch it before it even got to her mouth. Do you see the progression? After she ate it she went even a little further to take her husband down with her. “Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.” Every day the devil is at your door step tempting you to disobey God. What are you doing about it? God will always be there(if your saved) to help you if you will deal with sin before it grows into total destruction!
