“2. And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no. 3. And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live. 4. Thy raiment waxed not old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years. 5. Thou shalt also consider in thine heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so the LORD thy God chasteneth thee. 6. Therefore thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him. 7. For the LORD thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and depths that spring out of valleys and hills;”
In this passage of scripture we are at the end of the forty years of wandering in the wilderness. Moses is bringing to light that God is faithful and loving. Many believers have this idea that love is doing whatever the heart leads you to do. That’s not in the Bible; Genesis 8:21 “……..for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth…..” Israel spent those 40 years in the wilderness because they chose to follow their hearts rather than the Word of God. They paid dearly for it. God let them go their own way, but it was nothing more than chastening and proving. He wanted to make them better. We see this same exact picture in the hunting world. Sunday is not the day for the tree stand, its the day to worship God. Sometimes God says ok, “Do what you want.” Is it really worth losing your family over? Is it worth filing bankruptcy? You might say that’s a little rough. There are a lot of dads out there that put their success in the field above everything else. Exodus 20:3 “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” When people look at your life what would they say about you? He really loves God or he really loves hunting?” Maybe your not to the point of chastisement yet, but know that God is faithful. He is faithful in love, but what many fail to realize is that He is also faithful in judgement and chastisement. Israel learned the hard way. He corrected them because He loved them! He wanted them to trust totally in Him. Be careful Sir or Ma’am, Hunting can destroy your life! Maybe the reason you didn’t kill an animal this past season or even make it to the woods is because God is trying to show you that you are serving the wrong god. God gave us these wonderful animals, don’t let the devil win in your life. Don’t allow hunting or anything for that matter be a god in your life. It will bring unnecessary correction into your life and may also affect those around you. Proverbs 11:1 “A FALSE balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight.” Have fun hunting, don’t let it consume you!
