“1. THEN Job answered and said, 2. I have heard many such things: miserable comforters are ye all. 3. Shall vain words have an end? or what emboldeneth thee that thou answerest? I also could speak as ye do: if your soul were in my soul’s stead, I could heap up words against you, and shake my head at you. 5. But I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the moving of my lips should asswage your grief.”
Here we find Job in a very difficult trial in his life. His three friends come to comfort him through his pain, but as they begin to speak it was nothing more than chastisement and correction. When you read the Book of Job, you will come to find that Job was not being chastised, he was going through a trial. Look at what Job 1:1 says about him, “…and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.” Sometimes God allows trials in the life of a believer to strengthen their walk with Him. The last thing they need is another believer try and figure out why they are going through it. Look at how Job felt, He had been in sever pain from the boils that consumed his body; Verse 1 says “…miserable comforters are ye all.” How do you treat other people when you see difficulties in their life? What kind of thoughts go through your mind about them? A simple example could be a hunter that makes a bad shot on a deer. The last thing in the world that hunter likes to hear from another hunter is ” I’ve never wounded a deer.” One thing that is certain about the hunting community is that its full of arrogant, prideful, hypocritical liars. Its a terrible feeling in the world to wound a deer and not find it, there are many hunters that have been there. Be an encouragement to people! Tell them your bad stories, don’t act like your a perfect hunter because your not. This is a very light illustration compared to more serious things. Don’t ever have an “I told you so” type attitude. People go through very difficult times! Sometimes spiritual, sometimes emotional, sometimes physical! The one thing they need more than anything is encouragement and love. Job feels like he’s ready to die and his three friends are trying to tell him about sin in his life, but God said he was a perfect man, meaning he walked with God. Whether a trial God is allowing in someone’s life or even chastisement, try to help them! That’s what they need more than anything! The Golden Rule is something everyone learns when their young, but the Golden Rule is just a man made term, treating others how you want to be treated actually came from the perfect inspired Word of God. Matthew 7:12 “Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.” The law(Word of God) is what determines good vs bad, right vs wrong, righteousness vs unrighteous. Sin starts in the heart, we all need to be careful about how we think and even treat others when God allows difficult times in their lives! What kind of comforter are you? What would others say about you? Be an encouragement!
