“15. And the king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew midwives, of which the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah: 16. And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live. 17. But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.”

The days of pleasant living are going by the wayside for the Hebrew nation. Joseph has died and there is also a new Pharaoh over the land of Egypt. This Pharaoh is very concerned about these foreigners(Israel/Hebrews) because God is with them and they are multiplying above the Egyptians. Pharaoh sends out an order to the midwives to have these innocent little male children murdered, but give very important attention to vs. 17 “But the midwives feared God,” We are living in a day where believers no longer have a fear of God. Day by day its always about finding worldly pleasure for happiness. How is your walk today? Do you have a true fear of God in your life? How is your workplace? Are you more concerned about what people think of you than what God thinks of you? In the last few months how many times have you been a part of filthy conversation and refused to separate yourself from it? How many Sunday’s or important church functions did you miss this past year because you were more concerned about pleasing yourself in the field? Do you truly fear God? What sin are you battling today, but yet refusing to put it out of your life? Could it be that you have no fear of God? Many churches today are getting to the place that the pastor wont even preach real truth. The truth about God is that He hates sin! Hebrews 12:29 “For our God is a consuming fire.” These midwives could have chosen to follow man and commit murder, but the Bible says they feared God. We all need the power of God in our lives to overcome sin! Its not always easy to stand against wickedness, but God has given us His Word so we all can have victory. Notice again in vs 17 “…and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them,” Proverbs 29:25 “The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe.” We need to stop worrying about what people think and start having a true fear of God! Don’t let sin hold you down today! Stop trying to fit in with the crowd and stop trying to use worldly gain for happiness. You will end up looking like a coyote with a snare around his neck and unable to get away. What comes next? The bullet of course! Sometimes believers live a shortened life because they choose the way of sin, rather than pleasing God. When you fear God, you may feel afflicted for a while, but God will bless you for it! Look at the result of the midwives; Exodus 1:20-21 “Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty. And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses.” God is so faithful! How many blessings will you miss because of your fear being of man rather than God? God will bless you and will always take care of you if you will live in fear towards Him and put sin out of your life! “But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.”
