“3. Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison; 4. And make me savory meat, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die. 30. And it came to pass, as soon as Isaac had made an end of blessing Jacob, and Jacob was yet scarce gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting. 31. And he also had made savoury meat, and brought it unto his father, and said unto his father, Let my father arise, and eat of his son’s venison, that thy soul may bless me.”
Isaac is on his death bed. His desire is for his son to go the field and take some venison. After he received the venison, his plan was to give Esau the blessing, since he was the first born. Esau had the blessing stole from him as he was out in the field. His brother Jacob slipped in while he was in the field and disguised himself as Esau. There is a huge problem in this passage of scripture that caused Esau to slip off into eternity without receiving the blessing. In Genesis 12:3 God was telling Abraham of this blessing, “And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.” This blessing is the prophecy of Jesus Christ. One day the Messiah would come and save all nations from their sin. Esau missed it! He was rejected because of his own pride! Hebrews 12:16-17 “Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright. For ye know that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.” Esau’s pride caused him to pass of into hell for all of eternity. Do you know that Esau returned from the field with success? When he went to the woods he was seeking success for his own prideful benefit. Esau didn’t go to hell for being a hunter, he went to hell because everything he set out for in life was for his own glory. Pride will send you to hell sir, or mam. Isaiah 14 gives us thee account of Lucifer and his pride. In verses 12-14 he says “I will” five different times. Satan wants us to make life about us. He wants our success in the field to glorify our own flesh rather that Jesus Christ. After Lucifer says “I will” five times, Isaiah 14:15 says “Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.” Esau missed the blessing because he refused to repent of his sin. His pride destroyed him. Everything he strove for in life was for his own glory. What are you seeking for this season? Is it for your own fleshy lust. Will your pride keep you from the will of God? John 6:40 “And this is the will of him that sent me, that everyone which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.” Esau missed the blessing! Its not because he was a hunter, but because he rejected Jesus Christ. Don’t be the hunter that Esau was. Esau is in hell right now because of his pride. The will of the Father is for you to believe on the Son. Have you received the blessing? Have you put your faith an trust in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ? Dont let your pride destroy you! Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Do you believe Jesus Christ died for you! If you truly believe in Him, today is the day of salvation! Make Jesus Christ real in your life by calling upon now! Repent and believe!
